Abstract

The problem of the popular house and its uses has begun to acquire a new centrality among academic concerns in Latin America. Factors such as the rise of theoretical approaches that restore agency to things or the recent impact of the pandemic on domestic living, have contributed to pushing this renewal forward. The paper proposes a review of the background of recent qualitative research on urban low-income housing in three contexts (Mexico, Brazil and Argentina). The analysis reveals a fruitful investigation into the production and use of these spaces. As a result, a balance of the main topics addressed is proposed and some lines are drawn for an emerging program around the study of the popular house.
