Abstract

The Researchers’ National System has become an essential parameter in performance evaluations of public and private higher education institutions, as well as research centers in Mexico. For this reason, this paper aims to
determine the relationships between participation in the Researchers’ National System with the development of professional exhaustion or work motivation of the teaching staff of higher education institutions in the country during the confinement caused by Covid-19. From the descriptive and correlational design, and an online survey, the experiences of 334 academic members of this System who decided to participate voluntarily in this research are recovered and analyzed. The findings indicate that during the pandemic, work hours, professional exhaustion and labor demotivation on the part of the participants increased, which leads to the conclusion that despite the fact that the subject has been studied in the last 10 years, there are emerging lines to be investigated in the search to improve labor scenarios for the Mexico’s scientific and technological community.
