Becker, Goffman, and Anthropology in Brazil

Abstract

The author looks at the influence of the work of Erving Goffman and Howard S. Becker on Brazilian social science, specifically for developing urban anthropology. He relates his experience and contact with the Chicago School, focusing on these two sociologists, including their visits to Brazil. He mentions their works put out by Brazilian publishing houses and also points to certain differences between their two bodies of work in the interactionist tradition.
